First day adventures…

Donate Now

Today did not begin the way I thought it would…my car wouldn’t start (someone left the dome light on)…my son missed his bus (first day of high school…first time ever on a school bus), and I got to school with minutes to spare.  Needless to say, it was a crazy morning.  After ditching my car in the first available parking space (in the back of the school…which actually turned out to be a better place to park than the teachers’ lot), I ran into the school and approached my classroom.  I was trying to keep my cool and not look totally frazzled..not easy…

Flexibility…

So..it’s been a while since I’ve written anything on here. It’s been a hectic few weeks since I left Institute, trekked 1500 miles away from home with my family and the cat (more on that adventure in a bit), completed Round Zero, and had a few pleasant (and unpleasant) surprises along the way. First, our…

Institute – Week 4

So..I haven’t been able to blog about my Institute experience at all until now. I will give you the super-condensed version: 1) Rice University is gorgeous…the tree-lined streets are a welcome break from staring at my computer screen. 2) I’ve surrounded myself with amazing people, some of which I will miss tremendously when our time…

until Induction. I still remember receiving the news that I had been accepted…it seemed so long ago. I thought I had all this time to get ready for our big move, and now, it’s almost here…and I’m not ready! I’ll be leaving my family for 6 weeks, then flying back to gather up the troops…

No more Ms. Nice Guy

It’s the last grading period of the year…and no one wants to do any work. Not being one to give up easily, I have tried to make the remaining assignments interesting and dynamic…to no avail. It’s difficult to try to teach art to kids who could care less. These aren’t AP Studio Art kids…art is…

Inheritance

I have been substitute teaching in an art class for the past few weeks…I have finally built some good rapport with the students, although a few still make me want to pull my hair out sometimes. It’s been hard to get a few of them to do their work…until today. I was notified that the…

By “they,” I mean the staff at the university library. I just finished requesting 20 inter/intra library and available books/journals/texts, etc to help me prepare for the TeXES bilingual exam. They’ll be pulling books until the cows come home. I didn’t even request everything I needed so as to not overwhelm them…gotta stay on their…

The Army wants you….

Today, we had an Army recruiter come to speak to the last period class.  I was never a military kind of girl, but my brothers and my son were/are, and I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves.  That being said, most of the kids in this particular class would benefit from some time…
